E-Bike Testing
As e-bikes take off, safety can’t lag behind.
Poorly designed batteries, chargers and conversion kits can cause fire, explosion and unexpected failure. Independent testing shows if products are safe, reliable and ready for the UK market.
As e-bikes grow in popularity, product safety has never mattered more. Poorly designed batteries, chargers and conversion kits can create serious risks, including fire, explosion and unexpected product failure.
Independent testing helps manufacturers, importers, retailers and distributors show that their products are safe, reliable and ready for the UK market.
At CPAS, we test chargers, batteries, conversion kits and complete e-bikes. From single-component checks to full product assessments, our testing helps you identify risks early, support compliance and provide confidence in the products you supply.
Testing is carried out against BS EN 15194, the main standard for electrically power assisted cycles (EPACs). Other standards are used for different types of products such as mountain bikes. This covers electrical and mechanical safety, charging systems, power management and product performance, including checks on motor output, battery behaviour and verifying the legal 25 km/h power assistance cut-off. The result is a clearer picture of whether a product is safe, compliant and suitable for sale and use in the UK.
Battery safety
Lithium-ion stores serious energy.
Lithium-ion batteries store significant energy and, if poorly designed or manufactured, can pose a major safety risk. Faults in cells, chargers or battery management systems can lead to overheating, fire, explosion or complete failure. Battery testing helps uncover these weaknesses before products reach consumers and supports safer design, sourcing and supply.
Short circuit test
Ensures the battery does not overheat, rupture or ignite if a short circuit occurs.
Overcharge test
Verifies that the battery can withstand charging faults without creating an unacceptable risk of fire or explosion.
Capacity check
Confirms whether the battery delivers the expected stored energy and helps identify underperforming, degraded or incorrectly specified packs.
Independent testing helps protect users, reduce business risk and build confidence in your products. In a fast-moving e-bike market, it is an essential step in protecting both customers and brands.
